(RT) – CIA Director Leon Panetta issued a statement saying al-Qaeda would “almost certainly” try to avenge the US killing of Osama bin Laden.
“Though Bin Laden is dead, al-Qaeda is not. The terrorists almost certainly will attempt to avenge him, and we must — and will — remain vigilant and resolute,” Panetta said.
Many are celebrating Bin Laden’s death, but the reality is global terrorism continues. A number of most wanted global terrorists remain at large, as do the loosely organized international terrorists networks.
In addition, the US State Department has issued a travel advisory for all Americans abroad.
“Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens in areas where recent events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and to avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations,” the alert stated.
US embassies have been placed on a heightened state of alert due to the “enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counter-terrorism activity in Pakistan.” As threats and potential hazards are reviewed some embassies and consulates may close temporarily.
