Amendment II:  A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Wow paramilitary officers, what big guns you have!

If it were up to me guns would not exist. I absolutely hate guns and what they are capable of doing. That being said, I do respect other people’s choice/need to own and carry a gun. My life has been fortunate enough up to this point to where I have never felt the need to lock n’ load, though it is my constitutional right to do so. Just last week, 39-year-old Meredith Graves was visiting the 9/11 memorial in NYC while on a trip from Tennessee, when she noticed a sign that read, “no gun’s allowed.” Being a responsible citizen, not to mention a fourth-year medical student, Graves approached a security guard with the intention of handing over her loaded .32 caliber pistol for safe keeping. Moments later, the student found herself in handcuffs and on her way to jail without any reasonable explanation or consideration.

I gotcha back..

Graves was not aware that her Tennessee gun license was invalid in New York City, and had the absolute best intentions. She was not hiding the weapon or trying to smuggle it into the memorial. So why was she arrested? Apparently NYC is not part of the Federal United States, and only police officers are allowed to carry these death machines. Are we are to put all of our trust into these individuals in costumes and rely on only their good judgment? I think not. Should everyone carry a gun for protection at all times? No. So what the hell are we to do we do with these awful things?!

The other wise law abiding citizen was released on Wednesday after paying the government $2,000 in protection money (bail.) She will be forced to return to court on March 19 where she will be facing a minimum 3 1/2 prison sentence.

“You’d think states would reciprocate with the Second Amendment. She has a license to carry in Tennessee,” Graves’ mother-in-law, who wished not to be named, told The Post. “Everyone down there carries, and she just forgot. She was being honest, and this is the treatment they give innocent people.”

Luckily for Graves there have been other incidences involving out of state guns and ridiculous police officers. The Huffington Post posted a story earlier today pointing out that in February, Jonathan Ryan of Florida had gone through the same proceedings. While Ryan was helping his girlfriend move to the city he was pulled over for turning right on a red light. As a result, the cops searched his car and recovered his Floridian licensed weapon. He also faced 3 1/2 years behind bars, but was quickly acquitted by a jury of his peers.

New York police are also on edge after one of their own, officer Peter Figoski, was recently gunned down by an out of state gun.
