Monday, August 13 marked the one year anniversary of OpBART, a protest against BART police violence organized by “Anonymous” activists after the BART police shooting death of Charles Hill. An estimated 100-150 people, with at least half wearing the infamous Guy Fawkes masks, gathered at the Fruitvale BART station; Where officer Johannes Mehserle shot and killed Oscar Grant while he was in handcuffs on new year’s day of 2009.

The group of masked activists marched nearly three miles from the Fruitvale BART station to the Lake Merritt station, where the headquarters for the BART police is located.

An anonymous activist, who seemed to be leading the march, reminded everyone of the significance of their presence today.

“Last year after the murder of Charles Hill, a group called ‘No Justice No BART’ decided they were going to have a protest at the San Francisco civic center. BART police decided to shut off cell phone service, which pissed off the internet. So we showed up, and for eight weeks we trolled the fuck out of BART,” the anonymous activist told the cheering crowd.

Another anonymous speaker reminded the crowd that Oscar Grant’s murderer, Johannes Mehserle, is a free man and is currently seeking employment as a police officer.

”Another reason we decided to come out today is because many of you know, Oscar Grant was murdered by BART police out at Fruitvale where we started,” she said. “Today, his murderer is already out of jail and looking for a new job as a cop. This behavior can’t keep happening, this shit has to stop. We can’t keep releasing murderer cops and rehiring them to do the same fucking thing again. This should be a start of a movement about stopping murderous cops and making sure they’re not allowed on our streets any fucking more!”
